By 2022, online videos will make up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic according to CISCO which is 15 times more than back in 2017

Using video infographics should be a key part of your content strategy in 2020.

It doesn’t mean that you should take all your static infographics and animate them to a cheap tune – we have seen plenty of that already and it just doesn’t work.

For best results, you will want want to use video infographics to share data and stories that just couldn’t be done with a plain old static infographic.

Over the last 7 years, I have kept a note of any video infographics that have caught my attention and have pulled out the very best 7 to share with you today.

1. The Fallen of World War II

This video has had over 7.9 million views and even has an accompanying interactive, but I think the video still works well as a standalone.

What I love about this video is that sheer amount of research that happened behind the scenes.

The format works better as a video than if it was in a static infographic format as there is just so much going on.

The most powerful scene is the sheer number of dead on the USSR side (6m07s), it seems like it will go on forever.

2. Space Elevator ā€“ Science Fiction or the Future of Mankind?

I have been a big fan of ā€œin a nutshellā€ videos for quite some time.

If you have not seen before then, you are in for a treat – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsXVk37bltHxD1rDPwtNM8Q

I like this video as it pulls in lots of information about a subject and once you have watched it you feel a lot smarter.

These videos are a little longer, but they still keep your attention.

These videos are the gold standard for anyone looking to create editorial video infographics.

3. The Heroā€™s Journey

This video has had 224k views and has been shared across the web.

I love the use of illustration/music and voice over which is something that would be near impossible to pull off in a static format.

The video shows the 12 different stages of the hero’s journey with the accompanying scenes of moves with relevant music from each film.

If you produce content for a living, then you will be well aware of the hero’s journey, but this format is a great way of educating others about how it works.

Any video that includes The Matrix, Star Wars and Indiana Jones has my vote.

4. If the world were 100 people

This video was created using the data from research that assumes that the world is 100 people instead of 7 billion.

The idea being that we can imagine 100 people a lot easier than 7 billion.

This infographic can make some powerful points such as only 1 of these 100 people earn more than $90(Ā£68) per day.

According to YouTube, this has had over 700K views.

5. CBRE Animated Infographics

NeoMam was actually in the running for this project, but Iā€™m glad we didnā€™t get it as this project turned out well with veni video vichi (Spanish).

Itā€™s different to some of the more editorial projects on this list, but it brings to life what could be quite dry and boring data.

6. Odyssea refugee infographic

An important topic about a subject many of us are not aware of – the ecological impact of the refugee crisis on the Greek islands.

I love the use of vibrant illustrations combined with fast moving animation.

An excellent example of dealing with a serious issue in a way that educates and informs.

7.  Ruined castles across Europe, reconstructed

A NeoMam campaign from March 2020, this video infographic is split over 7 castles and shows the potential reconstruction based on current historical records.

I like that this idea could not have been done without the use of video/animation – the story literally could not be told.

Conclusion:

I hope the six videos above have provided inspiration for your next campaign. Be sure to let me know in the comments if I missed any great ones as I am always looking for great video content.
